About the Event
This is the opportunity to complete the Riding Test and Written Exam for Knapamerki Levels 1, 2 and/or 3 judged by Caeli Cavanagh and to receive a certificate recognized by the University of Holar.
The goal of Knapamerki is to have an organized and systematic educational program in Icelandic horsemanship taught and judged by professionals. The University of Holar oversees the Knapamerki program from creating teaching materials to qualifying teachers and judges. In Iceland, the Knapamerki program has five levels accomplished by five books. Each containing both a theoretical and practical component and spans from beginning principles to more advanced training.
Note: If you are also participating in one of Guðmar Pétursson's clinics, you can request for some Riding Exam prepartion lessons during your lesson blocks.
Levels 1-3 Exams
Each level has a corresponding Written (Theoretical) and Riding (Practical) exam, giving participants both a goal to work towards as well as a detailed evaluation of their progress.
Level 1
- Study Book: The Icelandic Riding Levels 1
- Level 1 Written (Theoretical) Exam
- Level 1 Riding (Practical) Exam - completed at tack up area and in round pen (for part of the exam, your horse will be lunged while you are riding)
Level 2
- Study Book: The Icelandic Riding Levels 2
- Level 2 Written (Theoretical) Exam
- Level 2 Riding (Practical) Exam - completed in dressage arena
Level 3
- Study Book: The Icelandic Riding Levels 3
- Level 3 Written (Theoretical) Exam
- Level 3 Riding (Practical) Exam - completed in dressage arena
Study Books
The Icelandic Riding Levels books are available for each level to educate the rider on the corresponding theoretical knowledge. You will need to study the book for the level you are completing prior to the tests.

Exam Fees
CAD $125 per level.
To ensure your spot, a non-refundable deposit of $60 is due upon registration. The remainder $65 is due 30 days prior to the exams day.
Riding (Practical) Exam instructions will be sent to you soon after you have registered.
Accommodation
Spots are available to camp on the grounds. There is no access to individual electric or water lines to hook up to an RV. Limited shared facilities such as a shower and bathroom are available. Camping is free for those participating in the event.
