A Registered Design

Fager John is the ideal choice If you would describe your horse as the following;

  • Needs to seek more contact with the bit.
  • Can overreact when you take the reins.
  • Resistant to keep a consistent contact.
  • Needs to calm down in the mouth.
  • Sensitive tongue and bars, can chew on the bit and throw the head.

John is a sweet-tasting, double-jointed Snaffle with bar relief. The design is simple, unique and designed with the horse’s ultimate comfort in mind. Combined with the sweet taste material, the horse will seek more contact with the hand and be less overreactive when you take the reins, keeping a more consistent contact.

The joints are specifically designed to give a much more gentle pressure on the tongue, making John an extremely comfortable bit. The mouthpiece naturally conforms to the shape of the tongue whilst relieving the bars from constant pressure.

Material
Sweet iron is a covering on top of a bit made of stainless steel. The purpose is to disguise the metal taste from stainless steel and create a pleasant, sweet taste, encouraging the horse to seek more contact and hold on to the bit. Following use, sweet iron will start to oxidize and turn brownish grey, this is to be expected.

Sweet iron is a good choice for horses who need to seek more contact with the bit.

Fixed rings
Fixed rings are attached to the mouthpiece, and the reins’ contact will be more still towards the mouth. Fixed rings will encourage a horse to keep the contact towards the bit and create a stable feeling for both the horse and rider.

BIT GUIDE & INFORMATION from Fager.

TIPS & INFORMATION

  • Sweet iron is meant to rust. Most horses love the taste it gives.
  • When you receive your bit it has protection oil to prevent it from start rusting before being used. It might make the bit look a bit filthy as first sight. The oil can be either cleaned with a simple towel/paper before start using it or not. The oil is harmless for the horse.
  • If you want to delay the rusting process, wipe the bit dry after every use.
  • Do you think your bit is too rusty after a long time use? Put the sweet iron in Coca Cola and the rust will go away. It is the phosphorus in Coca Cola that makes the rust dissolve. Please be careful using any other strong chemicals with phosphorus in it! Coca Cola works fine, we promise.
Note that the blue color of the sweet iron will go away or fade along with the rust when you choose to do this.
